The Dutch poker player Joeri Zandvliet, is the first to win the UK and Ireland PokerStars Poker Tour (UKIPT). Zandvliet won £ 63,200 in the poker tournament in Manchester, he also received a free place in the London event of the European Poker Tour (EPT), which is the season finale for UKIPT. Besides these 2 prizes Joeri will also get all buy-ins and expenses for the 2nd season of the UKIPT repaid by PokerStars. The 21-year-old poker online player from Utrecht came on the final table in third, it cost him 8 hours to eliminate the other nine players. The student is very pleased about his first live tournament winnings and said in an interview: “I feel very glad and happy. There were five relatively strong players at the table. What I did today, did not really work too well, but I got lucky a few times. The tournament had a very good structure and was very well organized.” There where 518 participants at the tournament among which 279 players from online poker site PokerStars. The prize pool for the event was £ 259,000.

One of the most popular and successful poker players of the United Kingdom, Julian Thew, is one of the latest to join the PokerStars family. Thew formally played poker online for William Hill, where he won many poker titles around the world, including a GUKPT title and the fourth season of the EPT Baden trophy worth € 670,000. The online poker pro from Nottingham is currently ranked 13th in the European rankings with over 2.5 million U.S. dollars in prize money to his name. Thew joins ranks with some of the best poker players in the world, including Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein and recent British PokerStars introduces Jude Ainsworth and JP Kelly. In the latest poker news he comments on his recent sponsorship, Thew said: “I’m thrilled to have been offered a spot on Team PokerStars Pro roster, and I look forward to promoting the brand on my travels throughout the year.” The number of UK poker pros that are attracted by the two major players, PokerStars and Full Tilt, has increased dramatically in the past year and with young players like James Akenhead and Chris Moorman making a name for themselves, it seems as if the future is bright for the UK poker industry.

In the latest online poker news, PokerStars has announced that they expect to have dealt 40 billion poker hands this month, they celebrate this milestone with additional rewards and added reward tournaments, including the largest ever guaranteed Sunday Million. There are cash prizes on all PokerStars cash game tables in the days preceding the 40 billionth hand. Each time a player gets dealt an one millionth hand, they win $ 40 for every Frequent Player Point (FPP) that they have earned in the last 40 hands played at that table. An additional FPP will be awarded to all players that were dealt. As an extra, the winner of the hand gets the pot doubled. When the big 40 billionth hand is dealt, all the players are rewarded with $ 400 for each FPP earned in the last 40 hands, and again the pot will be doubled. Besides the cash game prices, the PokerStars Sunday Million guaranteed prize pool of February 21 will increase to 4 million U.S. dollars.That is a record for poker online. The date also marks the 4th anniversary of the Sunday Million and will be the largest prize ever of at least $ 1,000,000  guaranteed for the first place. There will also be a $ 1 million guaranteed tournament, in honor of the 40 billionth hand. Finally, the PokerStars VIP club is also involved with the festivities, they offer their players $ 40 cash credit for only 2500 FPPs in February.

2010 Aussie Millions Main Event has a winner. Tyron Krost holds the title in Australia for the second consecutive year. The 23-year-old poker player faced of against 746 players over 5 days to take the title home. Cody went heads-up against Teodor Caraba and took just under half an hour conclude the tournament. The next stop of the EPT is from 16 February to 21 February  in Copenhagen, Denmark.
